Scripture: Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Observation: The very first job that was ever given to man was that of a husbandman. God has told us to care for the earth and its inhabitants and has blessed man in giving him this job. Work is not a curse, it is a blessing, and a command.
Application: It's springtime and with springtime on a ranch, comes lots and lots of extra work... There are babies to tend to and pastures to make ready and all the muck from the winter to get cleaned up and freshened. As we take our place in caring for and having dominion over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth, I look forward to being the woman that God has asked me to be and taking my place in the world in which I live. God has given us the job of caring for, maintaining and subduing the earth. And while I want to be a part of that, at the same time, it is work, and often hard work! But as with any job God has given me, I want to give my best back to Him, and I want to be a good steward of the things I am blessed with. Sometimes that means doing jobs that are less than fun, working long hours when I am brutally tired, and being out in inclement weather... but when you are doing something for the glory of God, there is joy to be found in the most miserable of circumstances. And for that, I am thankful.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, As I sit here and write this, I know there is a lot of work to be done, and that it is a blessing to have the strength to do it. I am thankful for the life you have blessed us with here, and for the chance to let my children grow up on the ranch. Please help me to depend on you for the strength to get my job done and to remember that every good thing is a gift from you. Please help me to be the woman that you have designed me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.
