Observation: You cannot have light and darkness in the same place, at the same time. It is a physical impossibility, as well as a spiritual one. When your life is filled with the light of Jesus Christ, it cannot be filled with the darkness of the present world. (1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. )
Application: Jesus Christ has the power to take the darkness, bitterness, sorrow, fear and emptiness that is in our lives and turn it into light, sweetness, joy, peace and fullness, but it is only through our willingness to receive His perfect gift of salvation that He will do so. When we are saved, the things of darkness that once had power over us are cast out and replaced by those things which are of light... and Jesus Christ is the Light. No matter what you are facing in life, Jesus has already been there... He has marked the path that will bring you through safely and is waiting for you to take that first step so that He can walk beside you the rest of the way... but He won't push you... He will stand their waiting patiently until you are ready.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for gift of salvation that You offer through the blood of Your son, Jesus Christ, and thank You for the changes You have brought about in my life through that salvation. Where once my life was controlled by fear, now I am filled with peace. Where once my thoughts were filled with anger and bitterness, now I am filled with forgiveness and love. Where once I was dwelling in sorrow, now I find joy. Where once I was bound by duty, now I am compelled by love. And Lord, I know it is only through the indwelling of Your Holy Spirit, that these things are possible, and I come to you with humility and gratitude, for I know I could never have done it myself. Thank you for working in my life. Lord, this morning I pray for those who are hesitating to take the next step. Whether it be trusting in You alone for salvation, whether it be forgetting those things which are past or whether it be stepping up to service, Lord I lift them up and ask that you give them courage. Help them to learn and remember that there is no darkness in following You and that as You fill them with Your love, there will no longer be room for the fears that are filling them now. And Lord, help me to never forget. In Jesus name, Amen.
