if you would like to read the whole chapter.
Observation: To be honest, the first thing I noticed, was that Joseph "thought on these things"... he didn't make a rash choice out of anger... and because he took the time to think it through, God was able to speak to him and direct him...but as I read and re-read this verse, I realized that there is an lot said here about trusting God and acting in faith as well. Imagine how history would have changed if Joseph wouldn't have listened when God told him not to be afraid. What would have happened if he refused to place his trust in God's word alone.
Application: So often when faced with a choice, we don't take the time to think on it... we make a choice based on convenience or emotion, and are left to deal with the consequences. We don't take the time to seek God's word and hear His voice on the subject. And during those times when we do remember to stop and pray for direction, when God answers us, we still think that our way is better, or that our way is justified and we do what it is that we want instead of what God has told us to do. God has told us, just as He told Joseph, not to be afraid to trust Him. He really does love us, and He knows the best places for us to set our feet... all we have to do is trust what He says, and follow where He leads.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, So often I seek you with my mouth, but my heart is far from you. I want to do things the way that I have reasoned out rather than the way You have showed me, and more often than not, Your way and mine are in opposite directions. Lord, I want to lose my own will and to only seek after those things that are pleasing to You. I want to bring You honor and glory in everything that I do. Please help me to seek You in every choice that I am faced with, and not to seek You only, but to trust You and to obey You as well. Help me to follow the path You have laid out for me. In Jesus name, Amen.
